Research about sulfates in shampoos and other harmful ingredients

List of ingredients which according to numerous scientists shouldn't be used in shampoos because of their potentially dangerous effect on human health:

Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLES)
POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS – Stress-related illnesses, lowered sperm count, can cause formation of nitrosamines – OTHER USES – Dishwashing liquid. (1)

Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS)
POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS - potent skin irritant, cataracts, corneal damage, improper eye development in infants & children, dry ski, live toxicity, dermatitis, mouth ulcers, impaired hair growth & hair follicles, can cause nitrosamine formation – OTHER USES – Industrial cleaning products, degreasing agents, car wash detergent, antibiotic tablets. (1) Shampoo with no Sodium Laureth Sulphate or Sodium Lauryl Sulphate is called sulfate free shampoo.

Ammonium Laureth Sulphate
POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS – Cancer, skin irritation, hair dryness and denaturing – OTHER USES – dishwashing liquid, car wash detergent. (1)

Ammonium Laurel Sulphate
POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS – Eye & skin irritation, repeated contact can cause dry skin, can cause contamination with carcinogenic nitrosamines – OTHER USES – dishwashing liquid, car wash detergent (1)

PEG Compounds
POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS – Cancer, kidney toxicity, hives, eczema, contact dermatitis, may release formaldehyde – OTHER USES – Pharmaceutical ointments. (1))

DEA Diethanolamine
POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS – Irritation of eyes, skin, nose and throat, cardiovascular, kidney, gastrointestinal, liver & neurotoxicity can combine with a nitrosating agent to form carcinogenic nitrosamines – OTHER USES – detergents. (1)

Propylene Glycol
POTENTIAL HEALTH EFFECTS –kidney damage, liver abnormalities, contact dermatitis, skin rashes, neurotoxicity, depression, dry skin – OTHER USES – cigarettes, paint & paint remover, anti-freeze, brake fluid, baby lotion, cosmetics. (1)

Why not use sulfates such as sodium lauryl sulfate in shampoos? Why are they bad? Why people should use sulfate free shampoo?
Sulfates are added to hair care products as foam boosters. These ingredients are strong in cleansing power, low in cost and also highly irritating. The potential health effects include cataracts, corneal damage, improper eye development in infants & children, dry skin, liver toxicity, dermatitis, mouth ulcers, impaired hair growth & corrosion of hair follicles – source: The Chemical Maze, Bill Stratham.

Why is Propylene Glycol used in hair care and is it safe ?
Propylene Glycol is present in many hair care products for its humectant qualities (drawing water to itself). Propylene Glycol is a petrochemical and is a primary irritant. It is usually used in place of glycerine; a highly effective plant derived humectant, because it is cheap. Studies have shown that Propylene Glycol is not safe as the potential health effects include kidney damage, liver abnormalities, contact dermatitis, skin rashes, neurotoxicity and dry skin – source: The Chemical Maze, Bill Stratham. EverEscents does NOT use Propylene Glycol in any of our productse to try using a towel with a smooth velvet-type surface
